Auki is the capital of Malaita Province, and the Solomon Islands’ second largest town, with approximately 7800 inhabitants. It is located on Malaita Island to the north-east of the main island of Guadalcanal and the nation’s capital Honiara. Tourism on Malaita is relatively untouched, with snorkelling, bird watching and surfing being the main attractions.
There are a few guest houses in Auki, which is 11 kilometres from the airport on the Langa-Langa Lagoon. Solomon Airlines flies daily from Honiara, and there’s also ferry and shipping services.
