Yawana Dive and Homestay – 5 night dive or non-dive package.

Yawana Dive and Homestay is our newest property in the Solomons. It is a small boutique guest house that is located on the southern coast of Vella Lavella Island, in the Western Province. Offering 3 room types, Yawana can cater for up to 5 people, allowing you to relax and enjoy your stay in the company of few. Once you arrive at Gizo airport on Nusatupe Island, your adventure begins with a one hour trip in a small fibreglass boat to Yawana, where your hosts, Andrew and Andrickson will make you feel at home for the next few days.

The homestay is generally run on 12 volt solar power, with a generator on at certain times of the day to recharge batteries etc.

There are three accommodation types:

The bungalow – a double traditional leafhouse bungalow with balcony and private shower on the water’s edge.

Den – a smaller double leafhouse bungalow with balcony and private shower on the water’s edge, next to the dive shop.

Bunk Room – catering for the budget traveller, with two single beds and shared shower.

Rooms are basic as you’d expect, but all come with clean bedlinen, tables and mosquito nets.

Food is included in the packages, with a selection of local fruit, vegetables and seafood caught daily around the island’s waters, cooked lovingly by Andrickson and her family.

There is very little infrastructure on Vella Lavella Island, so you will witness the natural unspoilt beauty and lifestyle that the locals will be happy to share with you. Activities here include diving, of course, snorkelling, fishing, hiking and village visits with dancing.

Despite it’s isolation, the internet coverage is pretty good, and Wi-fi is provided for $10 per gigabyte.

Trawl the local waters for barracuda, mackeral, trevally and tuna; snorkel the local reef or take the boat with the divers; trek through the un-logged and unspoilt rainforest to see the old DC3 wreck hidden in the dense bush; visit tambu (forbidden) sites, villages and watch their cultural dancing performances, tought by the ancestors and passed down from generation to generation.

The property is not licenced to sell alcohol, so you can bring your own or we can stop off in Gizo to pick up on the way. Gizo is a small town with a hospital, banks, telephone network office, clothing, hardware and bottleshops and food and artefact market.
